FAQs

At ShechterCare®, we typically anticipate discharging patients within six to eight weeks following their initial surgery. However, it's not uncommon for additional surgeries or unforeseen circumstances to extend this timeframe.

We ask for your understanding and flexibility in these instances, as our commitment is unwavering: to restore your functionality and well-being as swiftly and safely as humanly possible, even in the face of unexpected challenges. Your journey to recovery is our utmost priority, and we dedicate ourselves to supporting you through every step of this process.

Female Patient

How long will I have to come for therapy?

How many times a week will I have to come for therapy?

We generally recommend two to three times a week for optimum progress. We do realize that this is an inconvenience
to say the least and believe that there are many things that you must get back to postoperatively, like motherhood, work, exercise, or yoga, etc.

If you are only able to attend therapy one time a week, even one time every other week, you will feel better than you would have you never come at all. Treatment is not or all or nothing, rather a compromise an ability to work
together to find a care regimen that works for you.

At ShechterCare®, we prioritize transparency and ease in all aspects of your care, including financial considerations. Our practice manager diligently verifies your insurance details and will proactively reach out to you regarding any out-of-pocket expenses before your initial visit.

This process is designed to provide you with a clear understanding of the financial aspects, ensuring you are fully comfortable and informed about any costs associated with your treatment. We believe in making your journey with us as smooth and stress-free as possible, right from the start.

Are there any hidden fees that we need to know?

At ShechterCare®, we are pleased to provide the first set of bandages at no cost to you, as a part of our commitment to your care and recovery. Should you require a second set, the need and availability of supplies will guide us. While these additional bandages may incur a cost, we assure you that there are no hidden fees in our process.

We prioritize open communication about all potential expenses, ensuring that you are never obligated to accept any service or product that does not align with your financial comfort. Your well-being, both physically and financially, is our top priority, and we are dedicated to accommodating your needs with transparency and empathy.

Absolutely! The timing of your surgery plays a crucial role in determining your recovery milestones. At ShechterCare®, we focus on empowering our patients with the ability to safely catch themselves in the event of a fall, thereby minimizing the risk of lymphedema.

Our tailored rehabilitation programs are designed to ensure that you can support your body weight effectively, which is essential in preventing the rapid onset of any complications. This approach is part of our comprehensive care strategy, aimed at not only addressing current issues but also proactively safeguarding your future health and mobility.

Will you be able
to fix me?

At ShechterCare®, we are deeply committed to enhancing your well-being across all dimensions - mind, body, and spirit. We confidently believe in our ability to significantly improve your health and overall quality of life. However, it's important to recognize that while we strive for excellence, absolute certainty in outcomes is not always possible.

Just as in any medical or therapeutic practice, there is always a small margin for variability. We assure you that our dedicated team will put forth every effort to achieve the best possible results, understanding that each individual's journey is unique and may have its own set of challenges and triumphs. Our promise is to be with you every step of the way, offering our expertise, care, and support.

We understand that every aspect of your treatment is important, and we're here to discuss all the details during your evaluation. At ShechterCare®, we firmly believe in aligning each step of your therapy with your comfort and consent. Regarding the use of pneumatic pumps, there is substantial data supporting their effectiveness when used alongside therapy and compression wrapping. Typically, I work with a pressure range of 40-45 mmHg.

Interestingly, a study conducted in 2002 corroborated the safety and efficacy of a compression gradient within 40-50 mmHg. This kind of evidence-based practice guides our treatment choices, ensuring you receive care that is both current and effective. If you're interested in exploring this topic further, I can provide you with the reference information for the study. Your informed participation in the treatment process is crucial to us, and we are committed to providing you with all the necessary resources to make well-informed decisions about your care.

In case of financial hardship, we are more than willing to guide you to organizations that offer assistance with funding for rehabilitation services. What paperwork will be required on my first visit?

For your initial therapy session, please remember to bring a few key items. These include your insurance ID card, any relevant prescriptions, and important medical documents, such as your pathology report or surgical report, which can aid your therapist in providing tailored care.

Additionally, we request that you arrive 15 minutes before your appointment time. This allows you sufficient time to complete a health questionnaire, essential for us to understand your medical history and current health status. Your preparation ensures that we can offer you the most effective and personalized treatment from the outset.

In New Jersey, we are fortunate to operate in a direct access state, which allows you to begin therapy without the need for a doctor's prescription. This means you can directly seek lymphedema therapy or post-operative breast cancer therapy at our clinic without prior authorization from a physician.

However, we strongly recommend having a physician involved in your ongoing care. Regular follow-ups with a doctor are important for monitoring your swelling condition and overall health, ensuring you receive comprehensive care.

How quickly can I schedule an appointment?

Many of our appointments, including initial consultations, can often be scheduled for the same day. To maintain continuity and ensure the availability of your preferred times and dates, we suggest scheduling your follow-up appointments at the end of each visit.

Your initial visit is scheduled for one hour. This allows ample time for a comprehensive assessment and the start of your therapy. Follow-up appointments will vary in length, typically lasting between 45 to 60 minutes, depending on your specific therapy requirements.
